ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Young girls in Bernalillo and Sandoval County are getting the chance to participate in football.

Tia and James Martinez are the creative minds behind the all girls flag football team. Martinez says the ages they coach are 10U and 14U girls. “I knew that there was a demographic that we needed to reach, which is the female demographic and just because I know there’s good opportunities for them like scholarships,” said Martinez.

For many of the players it’s their first time playing football and is opening their eyes to a world of limitless possibilities.

“I feel confident because it makes me feel more confident about myself like there’s a lot of girls playing,” said Faith, a player. “For my future I want to be able to go to the Super Bowl because there’s no girls that go to the Super Bowl or anything like that so if it’s possible I want to be the first person that does.”

Their first game is set for March 16th. They’ve also started a GoFundMe page so the team can go to a NFL Flag Regional Tournament in Denver.
